    Rex 5,000 rpm

Put Rex back together after engine rebuild, but will not rev past 5,000rpm in top gear ,put on Dyno and is only putting out 79bhp was told problem was not electric, carbs balance and cleaned.when first start have to open throttle a bit with choke full on . So rev counter needle sits on 5,000 rpm in 5th but is ok in all other gears ...any ideas what problem and solution is thanks

I figured by now you checked everything many times. Do the sliders lift up? Are you sure you have inspected diaphragms for holes and tears? Have you installed them without pinching. Slider bench test was ok?

Would a faulty KIPS system have any bearing on this issue ?

Have you checked that the carb rubbers are fitted properly, you may have over tightened the inlet manifold clamps causing them to kink and let air in . Or the plugs on the balance stubs may have hardened and cracked. 5k revs I would have thought the main jet would have kicked in so maybe pull the car tops of and check inside , the hole in the slide should not be obstructed . Again as mentioned check the diaphragms for nips n holes . I managed to bend my throttle cable mounting arm (cable end fits into the hole) and this could be hitting the carbon body . Sorry for rambling on , thinking through all the assembly I did on my carbs. Choke starter plungers not going fully back allowing it to run rich. Hope this helps
