removing front wheel
hello everyone,
I am a new ZRX owner. I have a 2003 ZRX 1200R. I need to remove the front wheel to replace one of the rotors. I do not have a service manual and was wondering if anyone would please tell me how to go about removing it and replacing it. Any help would be grately appreciated. Thanks |

Re: removing front wheel
Wecome to the mad house my friend. If you look on page two of this section you will find some useful, and some useless information. I have been through this procedure myself, The front wheel spindle is a right bast**d to undo. You need a decent 17 and 22 mm hex. Remember to move brake calipers out of way first, because of tightness of spindle, put bike on rear paddock stand first, loosen off and then put on front stand to remove wheel.
Hope this helps, if not I sure someone else will be along in a minute with more info. As an after thought, whilst its up on the stands, it an ideal time to change that little blip on the front for a decent fairing.

Re: removing front wheel
Here's the page from the manual for front wheel removal, purely for evaluation purposes.

Re: removing front wheel
someone's selling a home made tool on ebay don't know if it's any good though. I use 2 nuts welded to a bolt , seems to do the job ok.

Re: removing front wheel
I made a tool up like 11redrex says. Works fine although the first time is the hardest as kawasaki seem to employ a 500 lbs gorilla to tighten the axle in the factory. Just remember to apply a smear of grease to the thread once you get the axle out.
BTW, why are you replacing the disc rotor ??

Re: removing front wheel
If anyone needs a 22mm bit of hex steel for this job, I know where you can get them.
PM me. |
