    Carbon build up

    Whatís the best way of cleaning carbon off pistons ?
    Don't make the Rich Richer, it will only make the Poor Poorer!..

    If its in the hand , a wire wheel attachment on a drill works. They are pretty robust things.

    Scrape the bulk of from the top of a piston. Your real concern is carbon in rings groves. Broken ring works well as a scraper.

    Or ring gaps / piston to bore clearance .....

    I forgot you like your parts super clean. I had good results with hot parts washer, see if any shop around you has the machine. Pistons will come out as new looking. You still have to scrape the groves before the wash.

    Here is an example of the washing machine although I am more familiar with ones having vertical arrangement and carousel

    Wouldn't really worry about a thin coating like that, will have no effect to performance, and you never see them so no point in cleaning them just for aesthetics.

    Definitely clean up the piston, remove carbon from ring groves. Does the oil ring moves freely?
