Heat gun make carb removal and installing easy. Once boots are soft and playable all is ok. I posted few times how to video from SteveS from ytube..

The rubbers are still quite soft considering they're 17 yr old and the bikes now done 50k miles. I just got the inner 2 rubbers snagged on removal .I prefer to fold the airbox rubbers back on themselves and hold with cable ties to refit the carbs

Is your garage heated by any chance? Now when you have rubber out blow it with hair dryer to see if you like the difference in playability.
One of my boot was quite rigid and it got nice and soft after heat gun treatment....

It can get quite warm in my garage. Guess i'm lucky with mine as all of them are easily pliable, which is just as well as I don't have either a heat gun or hairdryer(bald )
