    Exhaust Cleaning with Hydrochloric Acid

I have large exhaust header to clean, but I do not feel like removing and polish-ing
For example I see lots of English using Harpic cleaner, that is really Hydrochloric Acid solution, to clean their stainless steel headers. Others use whatever HCl solutions they can lay their hands on

I wonder how safe it is in the long run, I see this Germanophon using it without protecting other bike parts from acid overspray?

I've used Harpic Plus toilet cleaner on grotty stainless pipes before and it works well.

We do not have Harpic here, no "real" chemicals for home use . All the stuff is available from industrial suppliers but quantites are large. Last time I needed HCl acid to clean my driveway I had to buy whole gallon of concentrated and disposal is a bitch.
After some searching I was able to get 9% cleaning solution from industrial supplier online.

'ole good boy Delboy comes with just on time toilet cleaner video.

Typical Delboy, well meaning but bit confused on details. Critical thing is to neutralize the accid after cleaning is complete. Water and tons of it. No brake cleaner.

Another thing. After initial cleaning with Hydrochloric steel should be passivated. See paper I linked below.

Above it is a link to engineering white paper PDF from American Iron and Steel Institute on how really do it properly. But heck accid washing of stainless steel is legitimate and apparently widely used in the industry.
    Enjoy.

Tried on downpipes from front head.

Worked beyond expectations on Honda crappy stainless steel.

I used 10% solution applied by brush and dish sponge to scrub on really bad area.
This was followed up by 1000 gallons of water from my garden hose.

Nah, not thinking industrial scale. Just paint brush application and this little liter bottle. There will be plenty left after exhaust is done for toilet duty in the house.
Need to source citric acid for passiation part of the process.
