    Johnny. Couple of ideas, If the problem is you can't get the socket inside the nylon protector, they do small diameter sockets or get some one to turn the OD down, If you can get the socket down inside have you tried a selection of imperial sockets ? Ie : 17/32, 9/16, 19/32, 5/8. If your going to bin the protectors large pipe wrench on outside and try to loosen nut / complete protector (Or wrap rag around to protect) or even cut the nylon off. Sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick. Cheers. Ps if you need sockets turned down can help you out but your need to get them to Watford.

    I can get down the sleeve it’s either wrong size or just slipping.

    it looks impossible not to come of

    On that slipping theme. Look inside of your socket, some elCheapos have deep chamfering at the socket mouth. This may cause limited engagement with flange head bolt and slippage if bolt is really tight
