    ZZR1200 Petrol Tap and Mod

Can anyone confirm exactly what needs to be modded on a ZZR1200 Petrol Tap to make it suitable as a NON VACUUM Tap on a ZRX1200 ?

I know there is a link on here somewhere but the images of the mod are now missing so not much use.

    Help / Advice appreciated !

Remove the filter in its entirety

Shorten the reserve pipe to same length as that on standard tap

Fit an inline filter between tap and carbs

    Nige,

Thank you as ever for the reply.
Can you help with these questions too?

Where is the filter that needs removing ? Cannot see one on images of the tap?

Looking at the ZZR1200 tap itself, the ON/OFF knob looks the be well extended outwards.
Is it just a case of cutting this down to size ?

Also the 10mm exit spout looks to be pointing BACK over rather than vertical as the standard one is.
How is that sorted ? Or does the pipe need to be re-routed ?

Re: ZZR1200 Petrol Tap and Mod

Pete have found an online pic which may help (certainly jogged my memory )

So ................................to get reserve to give you every drop of fuel you have to cut the short filtered pipe off pretty much flush (there is a reason for doing this but fucked if i can remember but as the main feed is unfiltered then i don't suppose it matters either way)

You also have to cut down the main feed tube to the same length as rex vacuum tap to give said reserve

The plastic bits are not interchangeable IIRC

Standard Rex fuel tap lever screws on as a direct replacement so no buggering about there

The exit nozzle can be teased down with the end of a small ring spanner as a lever (just make sure it hasn't come out slightly whilst its turning - i just gave it a squeeze with a pair of grips to make sure it was fully seated) although if you wish, you can re-route the pipe i believe but expect its a cunt to fit/remove

Fuel pipe is very close to the head tho albeit i and several other peeps have had no probs (that said i spaced the tank back 4mm on one of the Rex's to see if there was any difference to the other - which their wasn't but i did put a strip of tank insulation between the pipe and head for peace of mind)

If you haven't actually got one then you might also consider a slingshot Gixxer tap that are also direct replacement but are further away from the head

This is ZZR tap on purgerex

    Nige......................sorry, more questions..........

With this tap fitted to the bike and looking straight at it, which position is ON and OFF and RES ?

As in hours on the face of a clock ?

Do not remove the reserve filter it's there for a reason and works ok. The main feed on the standard ZZR filter is a plastic tube and filter. Tease out the tube and shorten it to the same length as the ZRX and push it back in. As has been said the standard Rex knob will fit. Up will be on and down for reserve. Prime will be off.

Wont be for a while but ive got a Pingel for purgerex so i will have another look then

Could of sworn there is a reason to remove the filtered reserve pipe (Purgerex came with one and i replicated it on pinky) but it has been sooooo long ago

    Can you remember why Mark?

Nope...those brain cells died years ago

Think the 'reserve' ZZR tap pipe was too high, so you'd never use all the ZRX tank reserve....or something
