Just picked up a nice little Yamaha SR500

Only done 9k miles. Same owner for the last 23 years.
    Starts first kick.
Chrome is in A1 condition. Recent tyres and shocks.
Tank has been previously resprayed and is tatty and dinted. Frame paint is pretty bad.
    Fork stanchions pitted.
Thinking Iíll get the frame power coated, tank resprayed, polish up the alloy bits and replace or re-chrome the stanchions.
    Lovely little thing to ride.

Crackin' little bike. My mate's been commuting on one for the last 5 years & its never missed a beat.
Worth a lot of money these days too, so a good investment if you didn't pay too much for it & keep it standard

I certainly paid less than it's worth and yes, I will be keeping it standard.
Had a quick potter on it yesterday and it quite a charming little bike and certainly a lot easier to start than I remember my XT500 being when I was 18!

I had one for nearly a year, back in the Eighties, still remember the reg no. HPC 28V.
Ate chains and sprockets but was surprisingly easy on front tyre wear! Mine was black with the red stripe on the tank (not the beer!)

the key to starting them hot or cold is pristine carbs.
That and finding the technique, the 500 should be an easier kick than my 600,
especially the SR as its way lower, but yer carb is the key to a happy life.
