    Replacement Shock absorbers

Guys - looking for some shock absorber advice. I have a leaking shock absorber, so decided to take off the springs which I have now cleaned and painted and I handed the shocks into the local bike shop for new seals, oil and re-gas. Unfortunately the leaking shock has a pitted rod and you cannot buy the individual components bugger. I have three options:

    1. Rub down the pitted rod and hope the seal holds
    2. Buy a second hand shock (the ones I have seen are expensive and in poorer condition then mine)
    3. Buy new shocks at varying prices!

I have opted for no. 1, so hopefully the seals will hold!. If they do not I was thinking I will jump to option 3. The prices range widely from just over 100 to 1300. If I had to go for something, I have been looking at mid ranged shocks (and even that is pushing the budget!). The mechanic has experience of YSS (dirt bikes and rates them?), but there are also Hagon Piggy backs, Gazi Hyper X and Bitubo. Has anyone any experience of these or any others?

Thanks Nige - good to know I can go with one of these options if the fix does not work.

I really like Nitron shocks - similar price to those YSS.

And what about option 4: new chrome plating to current rods? Of course after removing old plating.
