    Wheels.

Here's another question for you knowledgeable people.

I'd like to change my standard wheels for something a bit lighter / better looking.

I'd love a pair of something trick - but i don't fancy spending big money.

Will a pair from another Kawasaki model fit the Rex?

You can fit wheels off a zx10r or zzr1400, as a few folk have done I don't think it's a simple swap though. There is threads on hear or the OA site if you look hope this helps...

you can fit ZX6 stuff reasonably easily...

ignore the zx forks - I had the standard wheel in there for a couple of years, so the wheels will fit with standard forks - you will loose the speedo drive though.

the rear is a simple case of bearings and spacers.

Sorry to go 'slightly' off at a tangent.......,if you loose the speedo drive .,is there any other way you can get the OEM speedo to work?.

I only ask as this has prevented me doing a similar 'conversion' to my Suzuki.

By the way..,those wheels look great on your REX!

There are a few threads on the OA regarding fitting a VFR mechanical drive to the gearbox output shaft and using a bespoke cable to the original REX speedo which is useful when you have done the popular ZZR wheel / fork conversion.

I am sure all the answers are within their forums if you have a few spare hours to filter through it.

    Cheers for that Ken...,much appreciated.

I'm not a member on there so I guess I'll sign up to check this out as I can't access anything.

No problem trawling through various threads as I'm a sucker for collecting information.

    Re: Wheels.

Fitting later wheels is always a pain. The ZRX runs an old style mechanical driven speedo from the front wheel.

Most sports bikes (which tend to be the ones with nicer wheels) since the mid noughties, ran electronic speedo's driven from the a sensor, usually on or around the gearbox sprocket. So you have that to contend with as well as spacing and bearings - and brake disc sizing of course.

It can be done, wheels can be machined to take a mechanical drive, but it is a LOT of work and it will not come cheap.

You will pick up a used set of Dymags or similar for a grand or less that will bolt straight on, look good, be lighter and work from the off. You could spend a couple/three hundred quid on standard wheels and have a nightmare and a few quid more trying to make them work... only to give up cos it's too much hassle

Or you could just stay as you are and either have your rims painted and/or polished.

Option 3 is the cheapest. Option 1 is the best. Option 2 is the hardest.

Take option 1 then when you sell the bike, sell the Dymags (or whatever you went for) separately and you will get most if not all your money back for 'em - assuming you also retain your stock wheels to put back on

I've got PVM Magnesium race spec rims on my Rex11, unbelieveable the difference it makes to the bikes handling/acceleration/braking etc.
(IMHO) lighter wheels are the easiest & best mod to improve the handling & looks on any bike.

I've heard that the older style ZZR11 rims are lighter than Rex rims & they look a little like the old style Dymags, cable speedo too...
Plenty for sale on ebay, if you like the look of em?? & cheap too...
Most wheels can be made to fit most bikes, it's just down to how much work your willing to do to get the job done...

    Hope this helps??

I'm running ZZR11 wheels, on my 2000, not much difference in weight from stockers, but they look nice in black powder coat..
