The main characteristcs of an exhaust system are in the headers, sticking a differnt muffler on will not change them.

Brocks headers are good for top end WOT power, like on a dragstrip, but not so good on the street.

The length of can does change exhaust scavenging, but not too much, but the Rex and most carbed inline fours lose power with too short a can.

which is what matey noticed on his dyno when people started turning perfectly good end cans into "GP style" DIY jobs.... less power.

Going back to the OP, you can obviously spend a lot of money - to the point where you could probably trade the S for a clean ZZR12 and end up with more power, better handling and less expenditure, and thats with a standard ZZR 12 set up. They were overshadowed by Busas and Birds and then the 14 turned up, which is why the 12 is good value. As ever, it all comes down to what you're trying to do and how much you can afford. If you want a higher powered Rex 12 then like everyone says a decent, non mix n match full system, jetting and cams will make a big difference. Even without the cams you're looking at a nice power hike. Then go from there.

    I've already got a 14.
I'll finish it off next year anyway, maybe I'll just put the zx11 carbs and exhaust on and drop as much weight off as possible.
