    Re: that helmet lock

just to fill y'all in on what happened.

London is 150m away so I didn't fancy using my arm through the hole (madam). Bike was already loaded up so I experimented with the lock - and there seemed to be a fair amount of clearance between the rear tyre and the lid, plus the lid tended to move backwards rather than sideways if I put the helmet lock through the DD hoop. Fair enough, I thought, so off I went.

Stopped off en route and noticed that the helmet had started to rub against the edge area of the tyre , and caused a bit of abrasion to the lid (which was an old spare). So the lid eneded up on my arm for the rest of the journey.

Back to the drawing board... and rex was a hoot in central london as always. I wouldn't use it in town every day but every once in a while it makes a nice change.

I must agree to the use of a net.....much safer.

The helmet lock, if you read the Owner's Manual, it clearly states that the use is when the bike is stationary. As I would never leave my lid locked in the lock anyway and I hate the sight of these, mine has been binned yonks ago.

So far I think you have been lucky that it has not been knocked off that lock while riding......and it can easily happen.

    Have fun in the traffic

Pale asked about taking a helmet somewhere and the arm is the easiest way.
Turns out that the" somewhere" was 150 miles.
I'd be happy putting one on my arm for 10 miles or so but would definitely use a net for a long journey.

More about comfort than safety though.
Having said that, I wonder if traffic cops would have a legal objection???

Wouldn't think so - its a comfort thing, not a safety issue

No law against wearing a crash helmet on your elbow as far as I know.
Se si muove, sorpassilo. Se non, lucidilo.
