    Marks on clutch

OK, when I remove the oil filler cap there are what looks like gouge marks on the clutch spring plate right round the circumference, I had assumed the engine had suffererd some kind of problem in the past. However my mate just bought one same year and model (2006 1200R) and his is the same. My question is are they all like that, is it a manufacturing defect.

I know some of the early ZX10s used to suffer clutch damage when the alternator chain tensioners gave up the ghost - could this be the same.

    thanks in advance.

a lot of them have these marks, it is a manufacturing problem but not a fault in the clutch. It is the starter chain tensioner.

If yours is marked then i would strongly recommend getting the modification done before all goes Pete-Tong.

have a look in here and the related links

Thanks Mr Reaper, are these marks actually caused by the starter chain tensioner catching the clutch?

yeh, becomes more pronounced if you start the bike with the clutch in apparently. An easy thing to fix for anyone whose bike is affected (and it's not all that suffer).
