:ysam: has become our resident clutch expert lately and I've done a fair bit of talking to one of the mechanics at Cradley Kwak on his behalf.

I asked him about some score marks found on the outside of the clutch basket/ outside edges of the clutch plates. These are apparently caused by the tensioner on that drive chain that's in there. Your old clutch won't have made a noise as the wear had already taken place. Apparently it's a common problem with this particular engine, unlike the clutch itself which is usually pretty strong.

The simplest cure is to replace the tensioner if it's worn.

p.s. Sorry that took more than 5 minutes. I'd forgotten that part of the conversation with the mechanic.

thanks all for your comments whether funny or serious, :teeth:

it has become apperent that a little hole in the weld of mi down pipes/collector is the cause of this ticking sound, :weakest:
i am now on the lookout 'as seen in the wanted section, for a replacement exhaust.

cheers
