If you're going to EDINBURGH... ;) Go A68... Up through the Borders from Darlington.

Then, once in Edinburgh, head WEST! East side is dull.... From Edinburgh, follow the signs for The Forth Road Bridge (or Queensferry). Instead of going onto the bridge, head for Linlithgow.... Good road....

Then head for Falkirk/Stirling... Then A84 to Crainlarich... Another great road. I'd personally keep going until Fort William (over Rannoch Moor and through GLEN COE ;) ), but an alternative would be to head to Oban.

Or go over the bridge and head for Dunfermline, then get onto the A823 and follow the signs for Crief... Then A85 west to join the A84....

Or go along the A827 from Crief, runs along Loch Tay...

One of the best 'main' roads (A82) goes from Glasgow up the side of Loch Lomand..

Definitly stay away from the M9... ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The A9 is full of cops most of the time, and I think has a lot of speed cameras these days.

Some other good roads around Edinburgh... A70 (The Lang Wang).. from Edinburgh to the M74 (towards Kilmarnock)..

Once you get up a bit, there's a noticable lessening of plod on the roads...

Enjoy

Hi Rextorque,

If your coming to Aberdeen via Inverness you'll get the chance to drop in past Elgin on the way back down. If you follow the road to Abdn after that and take a turn right at the Port Elphinestone/Inverurieroundabout, head towards, Kenmay and then Monymusk and I can pick you up and take you towards Abdn along the South (Royal) Deeside route via Banchory. From there you're onto the dual carriageway (no motorways this far north) and heading towards Dundee and Edinburgh:) Watch the cameras between Abdn and Dundee... they seem to breed on their own:(

If your stuck for time, let me know and I'll give you directions from Inverurie to South Deeside, you need to take this road to Abdn, its a regular run for northeast bikers with lots of twisties and nice long straights:)

You may not get a piper :dunno:
Definitely do Applecross, Bealach na' Ba is the best road in Scotland

Good pub in Applecross village or if you just want something to eat try the Flower Tunnel at the campsite, There's even an old bike in the cafe!

At least the rain will keep the midges at bay.........................:p:

Wow what a weekend me and the REX are still grinning:biggrin: Ended up not being able to swing over towards Aberdeen as we both needed to be back for Monday, Really enjoyed the run over Rannoch Moor and down through Glen Coe, didn't see much of the scenery on the way down thro' there as got mixed up with a fast group of bikers and the red mist descended a bit;) .but we made up for it when we left as we rode back that way at a more sedate pace:) :) no speed camera the further up into Scotland but they were like a rash through the borders along the Carter bar road to Edinborough:( A run along the Loch Ness to Inverness was another good run even though tthere was plenty of cars too pass:biggrin:
No doubt about it we will be back:bike: :bike:  think the REX really liked the run aS well as it gave me 145mls from fill to reserve on the leg from Edinborough to Newcastle:) :) never had that much before and we were not hanging about but not fast enough to atract too much attention and be able to slow for the various cameras on the A1. 800+ miles in 3 days:bike: :bike:

GIXXER 750, HONDA CBF 1000, and a DL Vstrom ,... was going to be another but he binned his bike a few weeks ago and not yet got another :( oh yes and it might be raining tomorrow but I couldn't give a toss , weather supposed to be ok from Friday :bike:

Well another great trip 1350miles clocked , Isle of Skye road again still great , then along past the Tallisker Brewerey and over to Portree ' just about worn a groove on the Fort William to Inverness road alongside Loch Ness as we were staying at a hotel along there , done the run to Applecross (bloody hell single track and high n cold:)) along Glen Coe :bike::biggrin: a couple of times, Oban , then on the last day home past Loch Lomond ( where the midges had a good feast ) thro' Glasgow and home along the Motorway then blast over the A66. ...... Yep , be there again next year :) Rex loved it and so did I , but my arse did complain of numb bum syndrome with too long in the saddle a few times :D::bike:

Any one been this (http://www.highland-news.co.uk/news/fullstory.php/aid/7521/Pervs_set_up_new_forest_sex_den.html)far yet? seems like a hoot, strewn with used contraceptives, wet wipes and lubricant gels. Councillor Billy Barclay said "I am 100 per cent behind the police", I'll bet he is ;) he also said "I have heard they are going to come down heavily on any offenders" :bum: :fluffle:
