there was a german guy trying to sell these a while ago ,on the old board .

try german e bay? Also look on the zrxoa, think they were onthere as well.

have you rotated your eccentrics on the swing arm ,this raises the back end

quite a bit, have a look in the pit stop for more info.

cheers,mp

Raise the rear to quicken the steering on a ZRX? Are you quite mad? ! The ZRX has to be one of the quickest steering bikes on the road...! Try flipping the eccentrics first before you buy a "jack up kit". It raises the rear by about an inch(same as a jack up kit),costs nothing & takes about 2 minutes to do...which is a good thing, cuz when you lose all your straight line stability cuz the head angle's too steep, youll want to lower it again!

hmmm, zrx is one of the quickest steering bikes on the market?

try a cbr 600, or even a gsxr 400 before making a statement like that mate, the thing handles like a bus (goes like a rocket ship though)

as i have said in my previous post, i have rotated the eccentrics and it just aint cutting the mustard, i have ridden a gsx 14 with and without shock risers and 60mm of lift makes a hell of a difference

i have been mesuring things up this weekend and i think it is time to have a go on the milling machine

I wasnt talking about handling...i was purely talking about quickness of steering. The ZRX has a quite steep head angle as standard & so doesnt really need the steering any "quicker". You cant really compare it with CBR's & GSXR's as theyre a completely different type of bike designed for a different purpose. The general handling of the ZRX can be improved loads, but the improvments will come from the tyres/suspension/rider input, not from raising the rear to steepen the head angle.
Try flipping the eccentrics though...you never know until you try it...most of the members have tried it at some time or another, but most of them have put them back again...

man, please read my posts before giving me advice

as i have already stated twice before in this post

I HAVE FLIPPED THE ECCENTRICS

i sill want more height on the back end, i will eventually get round to upgrading the shocks but at the moment it isnt financially viable but shock risers are.

ah well, it looks like i will have to make myself a set.

time to dig out the 316 stainless bar

I have Ohlins shocks on, with flipped eccentrics. The Ohlins are about 10mm longer than stock, and the preload setting i run raises them about another 10mm. The Rex is marginal for a steering damper with this set up, and imho wouldnt take much more before it became very unstable. Steering is quick, but left/right flicks are still slow. This is down to weight as much as geometry. Of course, its not really a 'steam in and chuck it on its side' type bike, trying that justs leaves an unsettled suspension and huge understeer. Just a few thoughts that might be useful when you're deciding how high to go :thumb:

Try putting a lower profile tyre on the front :bike:

sluglie
10th July 2005, 02:04 PM
i run 120/50's already, i dont think they make lower profiles in this size

the rise on the rear isnt just for handling, it is also for estetics (sp?)

i make alloy parts for a streetfighter builder and my bike is also my mobile display case, i want the risers to show off the under tray work and other rear end bracketry that i make.

i am not trying to turn my bike into a super handling racer, but the stock rear tail height is crap, and a 90mm lift is only 1.2mm rake increase

look guys, i know you mean well with the advise, but please stop telling me what to do with the bike, if you cant help me in the search for the risers then please keep your opinions on what to do to my bike to yourselfs, i dont need suspension advise, i have a ex drag/circuit mechanic for that.

i am not trying to annoy people or make out that i know more, but i know what I want on MY bike.

regards

If thats the case, then no, we don't know anywhere you can buy them and knowing the blokes who post here, you never will now.

Good luck in your search.

:thud:

The blokes are only trying to help mate.

:thud: if all you want is a show bike with its arse in the air, replace the shox with a bit of turned and chromed bar. So sorry, i thought you wanted to ride it and stay alive while doing so, most of us do :hand:

Your drag mechanic wont know anything about steering except maybe for the turn around at the end.

Just try flipping the excentrics

I was gonna mention about turning the eccentrics or put a 16" front wheel in.

Let 30psi out of the front tyre...that should lower the front a bit...

yes, thanks guys, all information much appriciated (damn where is the sarcasm emoticon when you need it)

sorry if i put any ones dander up but i am just sick and tired of asking simple qustions and getting complete bollox as replys, not having a good weekend either

and as to kcearl, yes i do have a cbr600, but no it isnt purple, it is stock red and white, although my gsxr400 is purple and black, does that count?

oh and whitey, thats an angry 2 inches thanks, just like the size of shock riser i was after (strange that innit) :thud:

and jf, as i mentioned my mech is into drag and circuit and knows more about suspension and tuning than most of us ever will, certainly knows more than me (but hey, thats not hard, i am just a dumb pommie)

to all those who offer constructive advice, thanks for your input guys

as to the others, keep up the interesting insults guys, its the best laugh i have had for a while :rotf:

Try RF Biketch for tail lifters , they give about 40mm lift , had them on my 12 for a while only removed them cause the missus moaned . If you want them PM me as they're not in use and I have other plans for the rex.

And the moral of the story is.....

David W
12th July 2005, 10:21 AM
Did I read right that you have a 120/50 front tyre? Jack the back end up all you like, but the problem with turning may well be linked to the fact that a 120/50 front tyre has got a crap, flat profile. It will feel like you are riding off the edge of the tyre when you lean the bike over. The handling issues you are describing are because the bike is relatively long and heavy.

bikesnoopy
12th July 2005, 07:07 PM
I think it must be a misprint as i dont think 120/50 x 17 tyres exist... I had a look in all my tyre supplier catalogues and that size wasnt listed for any manufacturer, just 70,65 & 60 series...but i'll stand corrected... :blahblah:

sluglie
12th July 2005, 09:57 PM
well thats what is says on the tyre wall, either they are new or they dont sell em in the uk, i dunno mate thats just what i bought from my supplier

shinko 001 (sometimes listed under the IRC brand)

bikesnoopy
13th July 2005, 08:20 AM
Oh yeah...IRC...they make bicycle tyres...! So,maybe if you put a motorbike tyre on your bike instead of a bicycle tyre,it would turn quicker?!
