View Full Version : OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE

:D: I had one of these fitted to my previous air-cooled bike, and found it to be nicely made, good looking IMO, and very useful during a run, or at the end to see how the temperature is compared to normal. Also helps when doing an oil change to get up to correct temp before draining :bike:

For anyone who isn't familiar with this product, it simply takes the place of the boring black oil filler cap. Dopes not need drilling/locating/brackets etc.

I have just ordered one from M&P direct (www.mandp.co.uk), a company I have had good dealings with for several years

If interested: On the site only the ZRX1100 is listed, but it's the same fitting for the 1200. When you click to buy, you have to select a bike and confusingly, the ZRX does not feature!! Just enter on the last model ZR1100 Zephy and it will register the ZRX1100 one correctly :>

Total cost £24.99 plus £4.95 post. A useful new toy in this Bling-Masters collection :baby: :baby: :baby:

 Sorry, forgot to add a pic for those that are not familiar with these...
My last one was on the bike for 4.5 years and performed well :bike:

**NB some have built in dipstick. The ZRX model, does not.

Seen em before and wouldn't have one.

No one wants to nick the oe plug but someone had one of these gauges on this site and it got nicked. Oil got all over his leg and on the rear wheel.

Sorearse had his nicked too but he noticed it had gone, his worry was that some twat might have dropped stuff into the hole for "fun", fortunately it was ok but that's why I wouldn't want one.

:D: On the homepage for MANDP, top left of page you can click and then enter a search word. Enter OIL TEMP GAUGE and the page comes up. Scroll halfway down and the ZRX1100 is listed :bike:

Got one of those, bought it from Delpel (Cyprus chapter now, but with a BMW Boxercup rep). Works well, haven't had it nicked yet but carry the OE cap just in case.

ive had one on for 2yrs now, got it from sorearese, works well in London on hot days just to keep your eye on things...particularly when the fans fused, the coolants evaporated, the warning lights on and there's no engine oil in the bike..its quite useful then

Always worried me that the rod bit could drop off into the clutch basket and trash everything.

I'm sure they're well made and won't do that ;)

Can't have been Sorearse who had his nicked then unless you are owning up ;)

I gotta agree with JF. I cant honestly see why on earth anyone would want,or need one of these on a ZRX. What a totally, pointless piece of equipment.
Now,if you were to say an oil PRESSURE guage, that would be useful. Its nice to know that your oil is circulating-and at the right pressure...but who the hell ever needs to know what the oil temperature is on a ZRX. Lets face it,if your oil's getting so hot that you need a guage to tell you, your engine will have already expired long before the gauge reaches the red zone. Surely,if youre gonna waste £24.99 on a temp guage,a COOLANT temp guage would be far more useful... :dunno:

I'm having one of those on my 1100, not from a 1200S, but from a ZRX750.

Here downunder, A water temp gauge, would be very handy, there was a couple of days during the holidays riding around in near 40 degrees C and at least 3 days of 45 degrees C, when a temp gauge would have made a reassuring differance. I presume that the warning light is like what is fitted in cars, Yes you have boiled the bastard and if you don't stop in less than 1 second your motor will be stuffed, oophs sorry to late. :headbang:

i agree, (not sure what with mind you!) i like the sound of the pressure and temp gauges.....gonna have a gauge fest and mount 'em all in me Rex's "bikini" faring it'll be like the cockpit of a jumbo.

I tend to rely on dear old aunty Kwak to know what gauges are really necessary on her bikes...............however i do admit to having a gear indicator!!

I knew I'd seen em on fleabay:

but they ain't no £24.99 . The rod bit looks like it would hit the clutch , plus they look cack, plus who cares how hot your engine oil is, there's nothing in the specs about oil temp, so how would you know if was right or not. Plus they look cack. IMHFO.

Nasty things, ive had one stolen before, then it rained, then i had to get home. Water and oil is a bad combination and the very dangerous fact that hot oil was spewing out of the engine. Stay well  clear

why not try autometer gauges, dont know of anyone who stocks them apart from 'real steel' in uxbridge, thats if they still exist, all different sizes and combinations, and for the ultimate pose liquid filled

May try them, I do like the idea of an oil pressure guage.
