Hi all. My son has just done a telephone deal on the above bike with confirmation of sale to be made upon visual inspection this week.
I am unfamiliar with the bike but thought maybe the group here would have some idea about any possible issues and if there is something I should be looking at when we get to see the bike. It has done 45,000 kms.
Thanks

I know the 636cc variant had a reputation for being pretty robust........not 100% sure how closely that is related to this one :dunno:

The 636 came in 02 and they both seem rated about the same. Tried to get him onto a ZRX but he wanted a little flicker so we'll see. Not sure if there are any bugs with the bike other than the usual points to look at.
Cheers

Had a 2001 J2 model for nearly 3 years, put nearly 40k miles on it. Absolutely fantastic bike, bulletproof if serviced and looked after. All i spent on mine were servicing items and brake pads. Toured all over Europe in it.
One possible fault with it, the brakes can get bloody awful with age, i fitted braided lines and made sure the calipers were serviced regularly.
If it doesnt have a race can, fit an Art can, they sound great on them :D:
I learned so much on that bike, would love to have it back.
Do you know if itis the J2 model or J1 ?
Dont worry which model it is, the only difference between them both was the paint job.

Thanks Mate. It is a J2 model. Appreciate the input.
Photo attached and it is fitted with a micron can.

Just a few things to look/listen for
Check front brake calipers are clean and brakes are A1 on the test ride, original rubber hoses are usually terrible on these after a few years causing crappy front brake. They should be excellent brakes.
A good history desireable, valves n shims should have been done.
Engine is usually a wee bit rattly but anything too loud, walk away.
Very popular just passed test bike so usual checks for falls n deep scrapes, the front nosecone lugs at the headlight bracket are like cheese, break as soon as you look at them.
Rear suspension can be iffy
Thats the main points, hope it helps.
You probably know all of this so sorry if i am stating the obvious.

Actually not obvious to me so grateful for the input. You just can't beat first hand knowledge in my opinion. The owner wanted one more trip on the bike before he sold so we are meeting him on his way home from an around the country trip so I suppose that shows confidence in the bike.
Thanks again.

Yup, that does show confidence in the bike.
Just make sure he isnt a mad, axe murdering, lady boy cannibal who wants to meet you in the woods somewhere :D::D:
Seriously though, as i stated earlier i did nearly 40,000 Miles on mine in under 3 years, only did basic servicing (no valves shims etc) and had to replace very little in all that time. If you get a good one it will last forever.
Happy riding to your son, fantastic bikes.

Did an oil change and filter on the ZX6R in the weekend and removed all the road grime and excess grease. Relubed the chain and greased the nipples at the bottom of the rear shock. Will remove and replace some of the fairing stickers and will do the carb adjustment next weekend.
These are a nice bike. Not quite what I am after but if I had to settle on it I wouldn't be miserable. Thanks for the help.

Had the earlier G1 for a few years before I got me rex. Good bike, check the exhaust hasnt cracked at the weld off the collector (had mine replaced under warranty) also check the cam chain tensioner. they can make the engine sound rattly but at quick prod can tighten things up and get her running sweet. Brakes have the same issues as the rex six pots.
Really liked mine went to spain on it touring 3000miles round trip.
Found it a bit revvy when compared to the rex, there aint no substitute for cubes....plenty of gearchange action to keeep up with the fast stuff.....
In Short FUN and it fit me a treat not like the modern tiny things....
