Hi just sold my FJ1200, Sunday I am testing driving a 2003 ZRX jetted, Yosh Pipe K and Ns and a 2002 FZ1 hindle rejetted with a reported 135 at the wheel. Any thoughts on how these two bikes will compare?

well the rex will have get up and go from the off as is a torquey bugger and pulls from anywhere in the rev range whereas the FZ1 will take off from around 7k but is no slouch under that either. I have one at the mo and my last bike was a rex(standard in the power dept tho). Both great bikes depends how you ride. If you had an fj I think you will like the rex more but you never know.

Enjoy em both :)

i had a fazer 1000 2003 plate and used to ride it hard . then the front suspension seemed to go off and i scared myself numerous times around bends and decided then to change it. dont get me wrong it was a fantastic bike the power was awesome . mine had done 27000 miles and rather than get it sorted i fancied a change :\. then came the rex :D: . bought a zrx 1100 in feb 2000 plate standard . found that the rex did not handle quite as well as the fazer and was not as fast but was a much more enjoyable bike to ride its almost as if i knew what the bike was capable of so never frightened myself when i was on it . :) . dont be mistaken my old standard zrx has been up to 150 a few times , and once you have the suspension set up for yourself there aint a lot you wont keep up with . i am not the fastest of riders but i am far from the slowest . i ride out with 2 r1 ...1 brand new fz1 .1 fireblade .1 gsx 1000. and most of the time they are behind me . :bum: i have just got a 1200 with 128 bhp but not been out on it yet weather has been shit . must admit i liked both but for me the rex is the one , got bloody two in the garage now . 1100 on ebay but as usual loads of watchers and no bidders . :( never mind.

The first gen fazer thous had a hole in the middle of the range, hence the popular carb mod (Ivan's). A sorted 12 Rex with a full system, DJd and airbox gubbins dealt with ;) will chuck out around 130 brake as has been seen many times. It will outgrunt the fazer. The key is the way both bikes handle and that depends on a variety of things.

The big advantage of the Rex is that ZZR cams pop straight in, releasing another dollop of power, but lets see how you get on on Sunday first. For me the ZRX just felt a lot less anonymous, like it had character, the Fazer just felt efficient. You may know the XJ seeing as you just sold the FJ, the Rex is similar to an XJ 13 but with a proper top end and a bit less weight.

no bidders

 ;)

My son has an 03 FZ1 and I have an 02 ZRX1200. Ride both from time to time but it feels like home for me when I climb on the Rex. I bought both bikes together and my son was happy to take whichever I didn't want as we both liked both bikes. Rode the FZ1 about 400 ks the first day and the ZRX about 50. No question for me. More sting in the FZ1 now he has done the airbox mod and rejetted but you have to work the revs around a bit to get that sting. The ZRX has smack, the whole time. Love it.

Just take off the blindfold and you will know what you choose ;)

other advantages of the rex:
huge under seat storage and better fuel consumption if I compare my numbers with FZ1 owners I know
