You might wantto have a look at a macbook?

You don't need anything special. If you are happy with a 15" screen, then the medion, Tesco, Woolies etc are just fine

depends what you want.

if you want the best of the best of the best get yourself a sony vaio.

if you want outstanding customer service and decent features get a hp or dell

if you want a cheapo that will be a door stop in 6-12 months buy an aldi special.

all depends on how cash you are gonna part with mate

Hi mate

Most modern laptops in the 500 range made by dell for instance would suit you down to the ground, just make sure (if you really want to watch tv and stuff over the net) that the graphics card is fast enough with enough memory to watch flicker/stutter free movie/sport

Best thing going at the moment as a balance of price, versus qualtity of build, support etc. is the Dell Inspiron 1501. It's not as robust as the Latitude models (but that is reflected in the price). I've bought several for people recently (around Christmas time) and at 420 odd for home use it's brilliant.

The trick at the moment is to get one supplied with Windows XP rather than Vista. I'd try to avoid Vista for another six months to be honest.

Not trying to start a mac v PC thing, but if you're thinking of changing laptop anyway, try to find someone with a mac laptop to show you it's way of working.
It ain't a great leap from windows in terms of learning curve.

To give you an idea, I've had mine for 4 years, and use it daily. In those four years I've had to reboot it ONCE because it froze, and I suspect that was my fault for telling it to sleep while it was downloading something!
I'm not saying they are perfect, nor ideal for everyone, but they're worth looking at.
